Will Hewitt, Celtic Manor - Director of Golf, Spa and Leisure

“Seeing the name of the resort up there, among the calibre of competitors you’re up against, the guys back at the resort are going to be chuffed to bits. We’ve got massive respect for the other resorts; I know them well, I know what they offer, which is a great experience, so we’re very happy.

“It’s the start of the golfing season, we’re already thinking about the ways we can do things differently. A number of our visitors are repeat business and se we’re looking to tinker a little bit to improve their ‘journey’ with us.

“Improvement is key. We were the ultimate golf resort but there are a number of other awards I’d like to see us in the frame for – food and beverage; membership; dealing with sales calls, and so on – that we can work towards to make it a more rounded offering.”

Gary Silcock, Gleneagles – Director of Golf

“Having only recently started working with 59Club, we are very proud to gain the Golf Flag Award and a UK top six position. It provides a solid starting point from which we can continue to improve and which gives us the confidence to achieve even greater heights in 2016.

“Our number one focus is to enhance the golf experience for our guests and members and continue developing our facilities. We are currently undertaking a substantial programme of improvements to facilities this winter and spring – with works being carried out on the James Braid-designed Kings Course, The Dormy Clubhouse and The PGA National Golf Academy.

“Add to that our work with 59Club – which is supporting us through regular feedback and training sessions to deliver an improved golfing and customer experience – and I am confident 2016 is going to be a very exciting year for golfers at Gleneagles.”

Dubai Golf

Collecting the awards, on behalf of Dubai Golf, Barney Coleman, Emirates GC’s director of golf, said: “It’s fantastic to have such a successful night for the second year in a row. We’re very proud, as it’s a massive team effort, across Emirates Golf Club and Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.

“We’ve put a lot of work in over the last couple of summers; we’ve done a lot of training on service culture, and all the colleagues have shown a lot of dedication and have embraced it. And, looking at these awards, it seems they’ve delivered it over the last 24 months. We’re very pleased.

“Emirates Golf Club’s been there 27 years, Dubai Creek 21 years, but it’s still quite a small management group – we also now manage Almouj Golf in Oman, as well, so we have four golf courses over three properties. The reputation of Dubai Golf is going from strength to strength.

“I was a bit surprised by all the awards so there may be an issue with luggage. A couple of the 59club guys are coming out next week so I may see if they can take one or two in their luggage,” he smiled.

Monte Rei

A proud Shepherd said: “We’re delighted with them all and very pleased to win, obvio
